A Journey in the Future of Water

The documentary A Journey in the Future of Water has received fundings from Minor Foundation of Major Challenges. The documentary was shown on the Norwegian television channel TV2 in October and November 2007 and during the Easter holydays in 2008.

Climatic changes materialize in how water flows and runs in our societies. The changes are so severe and rapid that politicians are faced with challenges with totally new dimensions. How are societies dealing with these challenges? What has to be changed?

These questions are raised in "A Journey in the Future of Water". Interviews with leading politicians, common people and experts are combined with images from various societies facing a multitude of challenges concerning water.

With footage from 25 countries the documentary presents an original and comprehensive narrative of the challenges we will face in relation with this most precious resource. Interviews with leading politicians, common people and experts are combined with images and stories from various societies.

The production is based on scientific material, and it is outlining a complex subject in a comprehensive and accessible way. No subject is more global than water, and "A Journey in the Future of Water" is produced for a global audience.

In March 2005 the United Nations launched its "Water for life" decade.

The world leaders declared that water is of paramount importance to development and survival of the societies. "The Future of Water" deals with one of the most important topics on the international agenda and is becoming more central day by day.

En reise i vannets fremtid
Dokumentarserien "En reise i vannets fremtid" tar for seg verdens vannressurser med utgangspunkt i et manus av professor Terje Tvedt ved Universitetet i Bergen. Mens den tilgjengelige vannmengden er konstant, øker behovet for vann over hele verden. Økonomisk kortsiktighet på dette feltet kan føre til økologiske katastrofer, samtidig som kampen om kontroll over og fordeling av vannressursene i stadig økende grad blir et fokus for nasjonale og internasjonale konflikter. De menneskeskapte klimaendringene påvirker vannets kretsløp og forsterker virkningene av andre menneskeskapte inngrep.

Prosjektet er en uavhengig oppfølger til TV-serien "En reise i vannets historie", som fikk internasjonal oppmerksomhet. Prosjektforslaget er preget av god faglig kunnskap formidlet på en visuelt fengende måte. Komplekse årsaksforhold presenteres slik at sammenhengene blir tydelige uten at man tyr til forenklinger. Erik Hannemann og Tove Gravdal ved Panopticon er produsenter, mens Anders Taylor Larsen er ansvarlig for regien.

Prosjektet er innvilget en støtte på 500.000 kroner fra The Minor Foundation for Major Challenges.
