DeCOALonize

The deCOALonize campaign (www.decoalonize.org) seeks to provide information to local communities, policy makers, academics and civil society on alternatives to coal for embracing clean energy in Kenya. The project was established in March 2017, and started as a front to combat the establishment of a coalfired power plant in Lamu County (Coastal part of Kenya), a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The campaign has evolved to become a movement incorporating the yet to take off Kitui Coal mines in the Eastern part of Kenya. Currently the project has 8 Non-profit organizations that have endorsed and are working towards realizing the objectives of the campaign.
